TAWC was accepted by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) to be the operators of the Indigenous and non-francophone women’s shelter in Timmins.  TAWC had been advocating to the government since 2004 for a women’s shelter in Timmins.

TAWC participated in the same-sex marriage Municipal election debate TAWC along with other community agencies hosted the First Annual Northeastern Ontario Young Women’s Conference.

In December, the province of Ontario launched the Domestic Violence Action Plan for Ontario with the intention of putting new emphasis on prevention and better community supports for abused women and their children.

This year marked the 10th annual Take Back the Night March. OCRCC Board Training which was funded by MAG took place in Toronto.

The Safety Audit which was produced by TAWC gained international recognition at the first International Seminar on Women’s Safety in Montreal. June was pronounced Gay Pride Month in the City of Timmins for the first time, a collaborative movement between TAWC and Timmins Women’s Action Coalition, Mayor Jamie Lim signed the proclamation.

The Clothing and Appliance Exchange Program officially opened its doors to the women in our community. TAWC hosted the first annual International Women’s Day awards ceremony where TAWC began to honour 10 local women for overcoming adversity in their lives.
